Spring Seat Belt Campaign To Begin

The Windsor-Essex County Health Unit is partnering with the Windsor-Essex County Injury Prevention Coalition to promote the Ministry of Transportation’s 2010 Spring Seat Belt Campaign. This provincial campaign runs from April 14 to April 24, 2010.

A poster campaign entitled I’m a Dummy…You Don’t Have to Be – BUCKLE UP! has been designed, specifically targeting youth and young adults between the ages of 16 and 24. A display will be set-up at the Drive Test on Dougall Ave. in Windsor, and posters will be distributed throughout Windsor-Essex County.

According to the Ministry of Transportation, individuals who don’t wear a seat belt are nearly 28 times more likely to be killed in a crash than those who buckle up (2010). Those most at risk of dying in a crash while not wearing their seat belt are males between the ages of 16-24. Wearing a seat belt is the single most effective way that we can protect ourselves and others in a motor vehicle crash.

The Health Unit wants to remind all drivers and passengers to wear their seat belt every time they get into a vehicle – it’s not only the law, it can be a life saver.
